Reading Reflection 6

When you become a successful manager of digital-age projects, you touch on a combination of skills to facilitate your student’s learning. Your students will also learn from your example. After introducing your students to these skills they will begin to develop their own strategies, know how to manage time, collaborate with classmates and assess their progress. By following these skills, your students should be able to lead themselves to maximize their learning experience.
When gathering resources for a certain project, it is important to look into what inventory you will be working with and consider how specific resources could support your project. If you aren’t able to find the supplies you need, put the word out to other teachers around your school or throughout the parent community. Using your class website or email will allow those people to hear about what could be used in the classroom quickly. Community resources such as recycling centers are also a great place to ask for anything they might donate or need to get rid of.       
Projects of all sizes offer different opportunities to teach and reinforce good time management skills for both the student and teacher. A good idea to help your students manage all the work they need to do is by making a project calendar. By doing this, students will be able to clearly see deadlines, track their own progress and troubleshoot potential problems before they get behind. If you are planning a project that will last several weeks, it will help to chunk bigger tasks into smaller ones so that is more manageable. If you decide to use an online calendar, share those calendars with parents through email so that they can help their child stay on task and be aware of upcoming milestones

-Structures that support a productive learning environment learning environment in which everyone is engaged in a variety of learning tasks at the same time

  1. I liked that you decided to list both of the project managemnt needs for teachers and students because it makes it easy to see and compare them. Its interesting that there needs to be a strong relationship between students and teachers when it comes to projects because teachers need to be able to help their students no matter what.

In your first paragraph I noticed that a lot of the skills you mentioned that the students will gain from their teachers successful project management are also skills that will make them a good employee one day! By working on skills like strategy building, team collaboration, time management, and assessing of their work they are preparing themselves unknowingly for the work place. Love that you pointed these skills out!

  3. Great job recapping sally, I really liked how you took what the author said and applied it to our own teaching future. Also how you told us about using these digital age projects will actually help children in the long run in their learning by having the students be able to lead themselves. The second section about the importance of getting the right tools for your project was well put and did a good job of recapping main point’s author made in chapter 6. Also the reference to community centers where children can go to recycle or donate would be a teaching tool I would want to use in my classroom. Finally I think you grasped the big concept that differentiating projects is important to capture not just all the material you are trying to over but also meet your student’s needs.

  5. Project management is crucial when doing a project this big. Not only for the teacher but also for the students. I think it is important to have a mini-lesson on how to manage your project before you even begin the lesson. One issue with doing such a big project during school time is that not all students work at the same pace. Students will fall behind and this will create issues. Therefore, it is so important to really emphasize the importance of time management with these projects.
