Reading Reflection 7

I learned a lot of new things about screencasting that I was not familiar with before. A screencast is a digital recording of computer screen output from either a specific window or the entire desktop, often with audio narrartion. The output is generally a video file, which can be easily shared between users on the web. There are three main reasons for screencasting which are tutorials, narrated slideshows and feedback on work products. Tutorials: You can create a tutorial once and students can watch it over again. Students can also watch the lessons again whenever they have access to a computer. Narrative slideshows: Students can use digital slideshows and make them podcasts and present them to the class. Teachers can prerecord their slideshow with audio. Feedback: Teachers can talk about the essay on the screen as they revise it out loud It was very interesting and will be extremely useful in benefitting a classroom. I really liked learning about how they can be used in your classroom and how the students can use it to teach each other.. Reading tips, gathering supplies, planning, practice, recording, editing, publishing and promoting are some of the important steps in creating your own screencast!

I agree Sally that we can use screen casting for future classrooms and it will be an extremely helpful tool for not only giving student’s feedback but also overall benefitting your classroom in a number of ways. Great job hitting on the main points from chapter 7, I also hadn’t heard of this idea of screen casting before but now that we know about it I think it’s something I can incorporate into teaching when using this form of project based learning. The other thing I really liked from this post was how students have the ability to watch your tutorial as many times as necessary if they are having a hard time understanding the concept, so this could be another useful teaching tool.

  2. I really like how much detail you wrote about screencasting. You laid out the three main parts of screencasting and how we can use them in our projects and classrooms as well. I especially liked your last sentence were you went through all the diffrent important steps in creatin your own screencast.

  3. Your reflection is a great clear cut picture of what screencasting is! I feel like if anyone had questions from this chapter about screencasting, your reflection would definitely clear things up for them. I also agree that screencasting is great for the classroom.
