Reflection #3

On page 73 there is a section titled "Keep Your Students in Mind." The title alone truly grabs my attention. We are instructed to replace the word project with passion and to imagine what passion based learning would look like... We discussed with our speaker, Mark, about how important it was to make sure the students are engaged and actually want to be there. Yes, we can do this with technology but we can also do this on our own. We need to combine our activities, technology, energy and all of our other tools into a 50 minute lesson to ensure that our students are getting 150% from us; they deserve nothing but our absolute best.

  1. Kayla, I like that you wrote about the fact that technology helps students to be engaged but that we as teachers can also do it on our own. Technology is a fabulous thing and can enhance a lesson a great deal but it is important to not solely rely on technology all the time. I feel like sometimes when teachers use too much technology they are relying on the technology to teach lesson rather than them actually teaching the lesson. For example a teacher may make a powerpoint slide and then just read right off the slides and not go any further or actually teach the content.

  2. I really liked that you noted on the replacing project with passion. It makes me wonder what our schools and classrooms could look like if we had passion based learning. This makes me want to strive even greater in this project so I can be invested and sucessful.

  3. I think it is very important that you brought up that we engage students with technology, but it should not be the only way! Your last sentence was spot on to what I want my teaching experience to be like!

  4. I completely agree that it is important for teachers to make sure that we are engaging our students so they actually want to be there learning what you are trying to teach them. I think this is one of the most important things because when they are engaged, they are actually learning and not just memorizing information that they will later forget.

  5. i think you are right that technology can keep students engaged but we too can do it without relying on technology all the time to keep the students attention, but also as teachers we must show we have a good understanding of the technology we have around us.
